Question: If you are the only with PCOS, why is your entire family denied the goodness of grains?
Answer: Yes, Paleo is my PCOS cure. My non-PCOS family still eats Paleo. The beautiful thing is they don’t have to eat Paleo. They choose to. (And by they, I mean my husband. Naturally, my children don’t do the grocery shopping; thus, I have complete control over their food choices).

The Husband
Pre-Paleo Symptoms: poor digestion, tire around midsection, depression induced by high stress levels, stagnant athletic performance
Post-Paleo
Digestion. (in his words)
Well number one, I always felt like I was eating too much; I had a ton of gas. Everywhere. In my stomach, coming out my rear end, burps. I had a lot of discomfort in general in my stomach and intestines. I was starting to get a lot of heartburn, which I had never had growing up. I was just thinking it was because I was getting old. (He’s 29)
Bowel movements were often uncomfortable. And they took a long time. And weren’t clean. I would wake up with a sour stomach or feel like I had a brick in my stomach if I ate within 2 hours of bedtime. But I would feel the same even if I just took a nap, just wake up with a sour stomach.
Post-Paleo, I can attest that while his digestion is not perfect, it is significantly better. And his BMs are clean as a whistle (which I cannot attest to, but I trust him implicitly).
Body composition. Since going Paleo, my husband’s face has thinned out and the small tire around his gut and on his back/sides is noticeably smaller. He has visible ab muscles and his family comments regularly how he looks like he’s 16 again.
Stress and Depression. Before Paleo, my husband’s stress levels were high and he would get depressed easily because he wasn’t able to cope with the stressors. Since going Paleo, the stressors in our life have increased, but his ability to handle them has improved drastically. It’s a rare occurrence for him to sulk on a Sunday night because of a crazy week ahead or raise his voice at the screaming toddler in the back of the van.
Athletic Performance. My husband’s athletic performance was stagnant for several months. Despite hitting it hard in the gym, he wasn’t seeing solid improvement. After Paleo, his energy is more abundant and he cut off 26 seconds from his mile (PR 5:41).
So while my husband doesn’t have to eat Paleo, he does because it is sustainable nutrition that works for him.
